There are six Primary campuses within the Academy, Thomas Bewick, Richard Grainger, James Knott
and Robert Stephenson campuses in Ashington, the brand new Grace Darling campus in Newbiggin
and the William Leech campus in Lynemouth. All campuses cater for the needs of learners aged from
4 to 11 and offer 5 half day Nursery places each week to learners from the term following their third
birthday.
Learners in the Foundation Stage are nurtured in a safe and stimulating environment, which
provides a range of enjoyable  practical experiences to prepare them for their future learning. They
are encouraged to develop their skills as communicators as well as take their first steps on the road
to becoming literate and numerate. An unrelenting focus on teaching the basic skills of reading,
writing and maths alongside an integrated creative topic program me follows in Years 1 and 2. The
learners are encouraged to question the world around them and to learn to make informed personal
choices. Information Communication Technology (ICT) is a key element of the learning environment,
with all learners having access to state of the art ICT facilities, including personal laptops for learners
in Years 4, 5, and 6. In Key Stage 2 a thematic approach to learning continues enhanced by specialist
teaching in bespoke facilities. By the end of Year 6, students will be active and informed, and ready
to start their secondary education .
