The Josephine Butler Secondary Campus provides learners with a calm, purposeful environment
within which to learn. Care and support is provided for learners through an extensive pastoral team
led by the Director of Learner Well Being under whose leadership behaviour has been described by Her
Majesty's Inspectors of Schools acting for OFSTED as 'good'.
Academically learners are closely tracked and encouraged to achieve their potential. Data on all
learners is collected every six weeks from all subjects. Plans are then put in place to make sure that
no learner falls behind. Some learners have the opportunity in Year 9 to accelerate their learning
through NCEA accelerated. This individually tailored curriculum ensures that our brightest learners
can access the best Universities.
Learners looking to access work at 18 are provided with occupational courses in our purpose built
Hair salon, construction room or mechanics garage. Close links with our sponsors and local
Universities such as Durham, Newcastle and Northumbria are allowing us to develop a
Ground breaking curriculum that meets the needs of this area and prepares the learners better than
ever before for further education or work.
The Secondary provision of the Academy will continue to develop and provide a truly comprehensive
curriculum to meet the needs and challenge the aspirations of our learners. |
